Kolus is our first ancestor who came down from above covered in white down. Sometimes portrayed with a green or blue beak, Kolus is the younger sibling of Thunderbird. This mask was inspired by a couple of older transformation masks that I studied on and off over the years. Kolus is one my family crests from the liǧʷiłdax̌ʷ nation.
The design inside the transformation is a Sisiyutł and Human which represents the liǧʷiłdax̌ʷ people and is associated with the warrior spirit Winalagalis.
The top and bottom of the design depict whales. I chose this to show the power that Kolus has, as their strength allows them to hunt and pick up whales out of the ocean.
