Olooreak Etungat was born in 1971. She is an adoptive daughter of Abraham Etungat, a well-known sculptor from Cape Dorset.

Oloorek is to many people's surprise, a largely self-taught artist. She has shared that she was inspired to being drawing through exposure of other artist's in her community.  The more you begin to see her work, you'll notice that they're fairly contemporary, but in a simple way. She does a remarkable job at including traditional figures and elements with tastes of color and personification.
