Drew Yliniemi is a Tsimshian artist that was born and raised in Metlakatla, Alaska. He began learning formline design from Jack Hudson in middle school and then from his son John Hudson. Taking what he learned from the Hudson’s, he began to carve masks and bowls as a way to pay for college. Drew graduated from the University of Alaska Anchorage with a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration and Finance. After college he decided to become a full time artist after falling in love with carving and creating works of art that represent his culture.
