"Hummingbirds are amazing creatures, despite their size they are incredibly strong and have few if any natural enemies. Due to their size, speed, and brilliant coloring they are a favorite of many people. Like many other creatures hummingbirds play an important ecological role in pollinating a variety of different plants. This symbiosis is the basic premise of this design. Coast Salish art has always relied heavily on the use and balance of positive and negative space. This design is of hummingbirds broken down to their most basic elements feeding at a flower, the flower in turn in
turning into a hummingbird representing the symbiosis between the two as they share their Sweet Nectar."
