This totem depicts a story from the Nuu-Chah-Nulth tribe, telling of a supernatural White Wolf that transforms into the first Killer Whale. The story goes that Wolf gives power to a man by transforming in front of him. The story explains Killer Whale's markings, pack behavior, and hunting skills, all relating them to the wolf. Also their shared identity as skilled hunters and family-oriented beings.
In this totem, the details of each animal - Wolf & Killer Whale - morph together in the midst of transforming, while the Shaman face emerges from between the tail flukes. You can see that the animal in the totem has attributes of both beings.
The original wood totem was carved by master woodcarver Joe David.
