Space Bear is a tongue-in-cheek reference to an event in 2000, when a carved Tlingit Bear mask was taken aboard a Russian spacecraft by an American cosmonaut. The mask orbited the earth for four months on the International Space Station. Alison’s imagination opens a window to the possible encounters that the Bear had, in a reversed nod to the first European visitors to Alaska.
