Steinbrueck Native Gallery is thrilled and honored to present this outstanding collection of jewelry and wearable art by celebrated Tlingit artist, Jennifer Younger.
Jennifer's work has been commanding attention at home & abroad, recently seen on fashion runways, red carpets and style magazines in the USA, Canada and Europe. As her audience grows internationally, opportunities to view collections such as this become rarer, and we deeply appreciate the chance to show these stunning pieces in the gallery and online.
"I’ve always dreamed of pursuing something related to traditional Tlingit art and carrying on a part of my heritage. With some encouragement from a sister, I applied for and was awarded the Master Artist and Apprentice Grant in Traditional Native Arts from the Alaska State Council on the Arts. This gave me the honor and privilege of working with Master Artist, Nicolas Galanin, in the art of metal carving. He continues to guide me and inspire me. Dave Galanin has also taken me under his wing to teach me the art, focusing on the traditional aspects.
I enjoy the freedom of creating unique jewelry and art, using traditional Tlingit form line design as my inspiration. I want to continue on this path, creating for the people of today while honoring the people of our past."
