Drums are such an important part of Northwest Coast traditional ceremonies because they create and sustain the pulse of the songs and dances that solidify our identities and our places in the world. A Time of Hope is a work of reckoning, a call to unify ourselves as one. This drum has primary images of the Eagle and Raven moieties, but it is filled with overlapping and abstracted images of all the crests of the Oweekeno people. I imagine the songs sung by firelight that remind us that a new future is coming and I feel hope.
