The complicated nature of wealth is explored in the fluid lines and artificial dimensions of this painting. Copper was a powerful symbol of wealth to the Nuxalk, in both its raw and oxidized forms. The rare metal and its green patina were valuable materials earnestly traded among the people, and its distribution was an important aspect of cultural life and status.
