Stephen Bruce
Kwakwaka'wakw
Born in 1968, in Alert Bay, Stephen Bruce belongs to the Namgis tribe of the Kwakwaka'wakw nation. He started carving at when he was 18 with carvers Ned Matilpi, Beau Dick and Wayne Alfred.  Their traditional styles and advanced experience created a high level of quality in Stephen’s work from the beginning. Stephen has assisted many artists with commissions earning him a reputation for his work. He has completed an 18-foot totem pole for the Mitsui Corporation in Tokyo and he was Head Carver for the model Kwakwaka'wakw Village in Holland's Dolfinarium Theme Park. Stephen was also one of eight carvers that help design and build the longhouse in Alert Bay. Stephen also created three poles near the U’mista Cultural Centre house front.
