Quaraq was born in May of 1986 in Iqaluit, the capital city of Nunavut. He began carving at 13 and had the benefit of being surrounded by some very well-known Inuit carvers. His father is Tukiki Manomie and his uncles are Anxangayu Shaa and Qavavau Manomie. Carving has always been the only way that Quaraq has earned a living. He’s most recognized for his animal sculptures, in particular his walking bears.
