Alariaq Shaa

Born in Cape Dorset in 1978, Alariaq Shaa is the son of renowned Inuit carver Aqjangajuk Shaa. His family is rich with talented carvers from Cape Dorset including his grandfather Davidee Mannumi, uncles Tukiki and Qavavau Manomie, and brother Pudlalik Shaa. Alariaq takes great care in choosing his stone for his carvings and captures his own Shaa style in his sculptures. He enjoys carving diving and dancing walruses and bears. Choosing his stone is very important to him and he considers its various aspects before deciding what he will carve.
