The Wild Woman of the Woods, Dzunukwa, is a mythical giantess, shaggy with a huge body and head. Her lips are rounded and pursed to cry out “Huu huu!” like the sound of strong wind blowing through the trees of the forest. Her house is filled with fabulous treasures that she keeps hidden away from outsiders. She’s known to carry a basket on her back that she uses to hold children that have strayed too far from their villages. If the captured children are clever and brave, they can outwit her and snatch some of her treasures to bring home.

The male counterpart to Dzunukwa is Geekumhl, a fierce and formidable giant of great strength and power. Geekumhl is the mask that is worn and danced in the important ceremonies when Chiefs distribute Copper and other high-value objects to their honored guests
