In 2020, when the nation was deep in protests, I started this painting. At the time, a friend of mine was attending the Seattle protests. I heard this story of their experience; They are Indigenous. At the protest they saw another Indigenous person, a stranger. In a moment of solidarity and recognition, the stranger shared a cup of coffee with my friend. That is the story of the painting, with the cup of coffee being depicted as its own little being, and a burning cop car.
