Chocolate Lily Root Digging Paddle
Yellow Cedar, Red Cedar, Cedar Root, Wild Cherry Bark, Abalone, Acrylic Paint
37 x 4-1/4"
"Root paddles were smaller than canoe paddles and specially made for digging roots by the Coast Salish people. They were also used for pulling the canoe, or branches toward ones self. The Chocolate Lily has roots that resemble grains of rice. It was harvested and boiled in cedar boxes and eaten like rice."
